Wahbi Khazri sets the record straight live on air

Invited this Tuesday night to the set of Late Football Club on Canal+, Wahbi Khazri was keen to clear up a topic that has followed him throughout his career: his alleged overweight issues. Without a club since Montpellier's relegation to Ligue 2, the former Tunisian international delivered a frank response to the critics:

"Throughout my career, I was lucky enough to play an average of 30 matches per season. If I had been overweight, I wouldn't have played those matches. It's an easy excuse people like to repeat," he stated, calm but confident.

An experienced player still searching for a new project

At 34, Khazri still hasn't announced his retirement. The former ASSE, Stade Rennais and MHSC player continues to keep himself in shape while waiting for a new challenge. Known for his strong character and determination, he remains motivated by the prospect of joining a competitive club.Since his debut at Bastia, the Ajaccio native has played 482 professional matches, mainly in Ligue 1, with standout spells at Bordeaux, Saint-Étienne and Montpellier. His 2018-2019 season at ASSE remains his most prolific, with 14 goals across all competitions.

A complete career and renewed respect

Even though he has sometimes been the target of unfair comments, Wahbi Khazri remains one of the most influential Tunisian players of his generation. With 74 caps and 25 goals for the Carthage Eagles, including a crucial goal against France at the 2022 World Cup, his importance on the international stage is clear.

"I'm very happy with the career I've had. I never thought I'd play two World Cups with my country and play for these clubs. I feel good, I try to keep myself fit," he concluded, displaying a newfound calm and confidence.

A clear message sent to his critics—and perhaps also to clubs still hesitant to give him another chance.
