A new report has revealed the likely route WWE is headed with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins when it comes to their potential matchups at WrestleMania 42 in April.
Reigns and Rollins have a long history that got another big chapter when they were part of a triple threat with CM Punk at WrestleMania 41 earlier this year. In the main event of Night 1, Rollins got the win, pinned Reigns, and took away his wiseman, Paul Heyman.
It set the stage for an ongoing feud that has played out through the summer, and will culminate with a match at next year’s ‘Mania 42. According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer, Reigns vs. Rollins will likely be one of the main events in April because there are currently no plans in the next few months for the former friends turned bitter enemies to face off one-on-one.
“There’s no Roman Reigns-Seth Rollins match before at the earliest January, and I doubt January because I’m sure they’ll both be in the Rumble,” Meltzer claims [h/t Wrestle Purists]. “So, I think it’s probably WrestleMania as a guess. I think Roman’s definitely doing [Survivor Series], but he’s not in a singles match in San Diego. He’s in WarGames, unless they change.”
Why Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 42 makes sense
Reigns and Rollins have fought many, many times in the past, with both playing the heel and babyface. It would be understandable if fans were not interested in another clash at a major event. However, the story crafted since April has made one more big match something fans will crave.
After helping to bring down Reigns and his Bloodline at WrestleMania 40, Rollins has actually copied his former Shield brothers’ playbook by forming his own faction to dominate the company. And he has used it against the “OTC” often over the last few months.
Reigns has been outside the title picture for more than a year. Potentially winning Royal Rumble 2026 to set up a match where he ends Rollins’ title run to again become champion for the first time in two years makes sense storyline-wise. The only real issue is rumors that Roman Reigns’ contract ends after WrestleMania 42.
