Barcelona’s clash against Villarreal being scheduled in the United States later this season, has become one of the hottest talking points in Spain, and understandably, so given that it directly threatens the integrity of domestic football in the country.

It has been Javier Tebas’ dream for a long time to take a league game overseas in a bid to improve popularity in foreign countries, and after years of fruitless efforts, it now appears closer than ever before to taking place.

Barcelona and Villarreal have shown no resistance against the travel and scheduling of the game, but several teams in the competition have put their foot forward in condemning the decision.

Villarreal goalkeeper speaks

Speaking to the media in a recent interview, Villarreal goalkeeper Arnau Tenas was asked to give his opinion on the burning issue of the clash being played in Miami, in the United States.

The former La Masia trainee, however, showed complete cooperation with the club and the official decision, which has now been ratified by UEFA as well.

“We are all one. I have no problem,” he began.

“[The big problem is] you play far away. [But we will prepare] the same,” he said, making it clear that a venue change would not alter the intensity of the game in any way.

Tenas also added that the entire dressing room was with the club and in favour of the decision taken completely.

“[We are] dead with the club.”

Finally, the Villarreal goalkeeper spoke on the importance of the ongoing international break amid the hectic schedule, something that undoubtedly echoes loudly in Catalonia at the moment.

“Mental rest is very important. The team comes from a very complicated game, but we are prepared for anything.”
