McKeesport (Pa.) five-star running back Kemon Spell made an early commitment to Penn State over 14 months ago last August. He remains in the mix for James Franklin and Co., but also continues to give other programs a look.
Spell locked in a busy visit schedule to check out campuses and games this fall. In between those trips, he’s absolutely dominating on the gridiron as a junior. As Spell continues to garner national praise, he’s now added another notable offer.
On Wednesday morning, the 5-foot-10, 210-pounder announced an offer from Georgia:
The Bulldogs now have four commits in their 2027 recruiting class, headlined by a pair of top-60 juniors in Atlanta Langston Hughes four-star offensive tackle Kelsey Adams and Long Beach (Calif.) Poly four-star cornerback Donte Wright. UGA is always after elite running backs and there’s none better in the junior cycle than Spell.
The Keystone State superstar began the fall with a visit to Ohio State to watch the Buckeyes defeat Texas. He’s also returned to State College this fall. Later this month, he’s expected at Notre Dame, while the likes of Michigan, Alabama, Florida State and Tennessee are clamoring to get him on campus.
It’ll be a slog for Penn State to get Spell’s initial commitment over the line. His 14-month-long pledge is only halfway to the December signing period for the 2027 cycle. Spell is the No. 8 overall prospect and top-ranked RB in the cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies.
He’s one of three top-100 prospects committed to PSU in the junior class already, alongside Middletown (Del.) Appoquinimink four-star offensive tackle Layton von Brandt and Pittsburgh Pine-Richland four-star wide receiver Khalil Taylor. Pittsburgh Imani Christian four-star linebacker Gabe Jenkins is also in the fold early on for the Big Ten program.
Scout’s Take on Kemon Spell
After an incredible first outing in his junior season, Spell drew some serious praise from Rivals Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power:
“Spell showed why he’s the top-ranked running back in the 2027 Rivals300 with an utterly dominant junior season debut on Saturday afternoon. Spell showed his elite burst, vision, and contact balance, rushing for 293 yards and four touchdowns on just 13 carries, also scoring on a kick return. One of the touchdowns was of the jaw-dropping variety (first clip in the video below). Spell appeared to be hemmed in against the sideline, but bounced off several defenders before weaving across the field for a long score.
The competition is sure to be tougher throughout the season, but this first look jives with everything we’ve seen from Kemon Spell up to this point. The 5-foot-10, 210-pounder has been our top-ranked running back in the 2027 cycle in every ranking throughout the cycle. He’s a tackle-breaking machine and has continued to add burst and long speed to his game. We were also highly impressed with his showing in the 7-on-7 setting at the OT7 Playoffs over the summer. There is a lot of football to be played, but Spell has a shot to be one of the better running back prospects in recent cycles.”
