Hoffenheim’s Mërgim Berisha and Dennis Geiger set to feature for reserves in 3. Liga

Two of the three players TSG 1899 Hoffenheim were desperately trying to move this past summer should officially be demoted to the reserves soon. Kicker reports that former German national team striker Mërgim Berisha and former Germany U21 international Dennis Geiger will move to the reserves in the 3. Liga. Neither player has featured for the Bundesliga outfit thus far this season.

Geiger made 35 appearances for Hoffenheim across competitions last year, but drew the ire of the higher-ups when he publicly criticized club management. Berisha – impart due to injuries – has proven an absolute flop since joining Hoffenheim from Augsburg on a €14m transfer in August of 2023. Hoffenheim loaned Berisha back to Augsburg last spring, but the striker was unable to earn significant playing time back in the Fuggerstadt.

Both Berisha and Geiger still possess potential that they will hope to demonstrate in the German third division. Hoffenheim’s reserves attained promotion from the Southern Regionalliga last season and currently find themselves smack dab in the middle of the 3. Liga table in 10th place. Berisha (27, €3.5m) and Geiger (27, €2m) remain in their prime footballing ages and maintain decent estimated market values.
