Everton continue to search for balance in their attack. The winter transfer window might give them a chance to reshape their frontline. The club has endured periods of inconsistency, especially in finishing chances despite creating several openings.

Their struggles in front of the goal have kept attention on how the attacking unit can become more fluid and effective. Under David Moyes, there is a clear intention to rebuild a side with both grit and purpose. Moyes never rushes into transfers. He prefers players with work rate, discipline, and awareness.

Everton are exploring a January move for Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee

Recent reports from Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider suggest that Joshua Zirkzee has become a strong candidate for a January move. Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness said on the Inside Track podcast that the Manchester United forward is under consideration by Everton. Wyness described Zirkzee as a “Moyes-type player”. He believes the Dutch forward can bring a new dimension to the frontline.

The 24-year-old’s versatility and mobility could fill a gap that neither Beto nor Barry have covered well. Zirkzee’s ability to drop deep, move into channels, and link with midfield runners could fit neatly into Moyes’ system. Wyness also said a deal would depend on the price and United’s willingness to negotiate.

He added that Moyes wants to strengthen in attack, even though defensive issues still exist elsewhere in the squad. Interestingly, reports revealed that Everton are competing hard to sign Mario Gila, while other reports also mention their pursuit of Gabriel Jesus amid competition from Flamengo. This shows that the Merseyside club are looking at several attacking options before the second half of the season.

Would Zirkzee Suit Moyes?

Zirkzee’s arrival could bring much-needed variety to Everton’s attack. His mix of strength and technical ability makes him an interesting option for a manager who values structure and intelligence in play. The 24-year-old’s goal record may not yet be outstanding, still his overall contribution could be more valuable.

He can hold up the ball, draw defenders, and create space for midfield runners. These qualities fit Moyes’ organised and flexible approach. The Dutchman’s pressing energy and willingness to track back also match the defensive effort Moyes expects from his forwards. The Everton boss has a reputation for improving players, and Zirkzee could benefit from that kind of guidance.

Still, there are reasons for caution. January transfers always carry risk, especially for players with limited recent minutes. A loan deal with an option to buy could offer a sensible solution, as it would allow Everton to strengthen without major risk. The move would also give them time to see if Zirkzee can handle the demands of the Premier League.
