High school football in New Mexico is now in its stretch drive.
There are several players who are making their names known to help their respective squads extend their seasons into the upcoming playoffs.
Here, now, is a look at the top performers in the “Land of Enchantment” from Week 7. Also, readers can now vote on who they think should be the New Mexico Player of the Week.
Vote as many times as you like until 11:59 p.m. CT on Sunday, and the winner will be announced next week.

Victor Aguilar Jr., West Mesa
A senior halfback, Aguilar rushed for 273 yards on 23 carries and scored four TDs as the Mustangs defeated Atrisco Heritage, 55-14.
Danny Amaro, Las Cruces
Amaro, a senior tailback, had six total TDs in the Bulldawgs’ 56-6 win at Clovis. He rushed for 103 yards on 12 carries and also returned three punts for a total of 101 yards.
Ulisses Castro, Bernalillo
A junior, Castro completed 8-of-18 passes for 135 yards and two TDs, rushed for 92 yards on nine carries and two TDs, recorded five tackles, including two tackles for loss, one sack and forced a fumble in the Spartans’ 42-0 win against Kirtland Central.
Gage Conway, Albuquerque Academy
Conway scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns, two via receiving and the other a pick-six, in the Chargers’ 49-36 win against St. Pius. He caught a go-ahead TD pass with 24 seconds left; then iced the game with a 40-yard pick-six with six seconds remaining. Conway finished the game with seven catches for 94 yards.
Cross Figg, Texico
A sophomore quarterback, Figg threw for 153 yards and three TDs and also rushed for 228 yards on 10 carries and scored three more times in the Wolverines’ 49-0 win against Jal.
Joshua Gonzales, Pojoaque Valley
Gonzales, a junior QB, passed for 174 yards and two TDs while adding 142 yards rushing on 15 carries with two more scores in the Elks’ 32-31 overtime win against Robertson.
Jordan Hatch, Cleveland
Hatch tossed four TD passes as the Storm defeated Farmington, 49-3, in a game that was called at halftime due to lightning.
Jordan Herrera, Los Alamos
Herrera, a junior running back, rushed for 274 yards on 35 carries and scored five TDs as the Hilltoppers downed Belen, 43-36.
Luke Lynn, Roswell
Lynn completed 75% of his passes (18-of-24) for 216 yards and a TD while adding 72 yards rushing and two TDs in the Coyotes’ 33-14 win against Gadsden.
Elijah Melancon, Eunice
Melancon passed for four TDs in the Cardinals’ 56-6 win against Loving. He is now second on the state’s all-time passing touchdowns list with 136 and also has 9,419 career yards.
D’Angelo Mitchell, Volcano Vista
Mitchell turned in a 100-yard game, literally, as he finished with exactly 100 yards on 19 carries with three TDs in the Hawks’ 35-7 win against Piedra Vista.
Israel Nieto, Chaparral
Nieto threw for 250 yards on 13-of-15 passing and four TDs in his team’s 40-14 win against Valencia.
Dailen Ramirez, Las Cruces Centennial
A junior tailback, Ramirez rushed for 180 yards on 28 carries and found the end zone four times as the Hawks outlasted Alamogordo, 42-32. He also caught three passes for 48 yards.
Elijah Rivero, Lovington
Rivero caught two TD passes and had five catches for 143 yards as the Wildcats posted a 50-6 win against Mayfield. In that same game, he broke the school record for both career receptions and career receiving yards.
Mario Romero, Moriarty
Romero ran 64 yards for a TD on the game’s opening play and went on to rush for 193 yards on 10 carries as the Pintos defeated Aztec, 50-0.
Lorenzo Sedillo-Urban, Legacy Academy
A senior quarterback, Sedillo-Urban was 10-of-17 passing for 201 yards and two TDs and added 54 yards rushing in the Silverbacks’ 21-14 win against Raton.
Kamal Stith, St. Michael’s
A senior quarterback, Stith threw for 240 yards and five TDs and also added two rushing scores in the Horsemen’s 47-8 win against Hope Christian.
Jose Tapia, Highland
Tapia rushed for 180 yards on 24 carries and had two TDs as the Hornets defeated Miyamura, 20-8.
Derrick Warren, Artesia
Warren passed for 195 yards and four TDs to lift the Bulldogs to a 58-0 win against Santa Teresa.
Chance Whitmire, La Cueva
Whitmire kicked four field goals, three of those 39 yards or beyond, including a long of 47 yards, in the Bears’ 26-7 win against Eldorado. The win gave coach Brandon Back his 100th career victory.
