Predicting AP Top 25 games in Week 7

The annual  Red River Rivalry battle between Texas and Oklahoma is one of the highlight games in Week 7. And one team is ranked — and it's not the one that was No. 1 in the preseason. Outside of Dallas, Texas, the schedule is stacked with great Big 12, SEC and Big Ten contests. The season gets deeper and the stakes get steeper.

Here are the predictions for the full AP Top 25 slate in Week 7.

Pittsburgh at No. 25 Florida State

The Panthers are fresh from a victory over BC. However, they also have lost to West Virginia and Louisville already. The West Virginia defeat does not speak well of Pitt. Yes, Florida State has lost two straight but Virginia and Miami are better teams than those Pitt fell to this season. Prediction: Florida State 27, Pitt 20

No. 24 South Florida at North Texas

This is a great matchup. South Florida comes in with one loss and North Texas is undefeated. Do not be surprised if the Mean Green upend the Bulls. They are quietly a strong team. Prediction: North Texas 33, South Florida 26

23. Memphis (Bye)

No. 22 Iowa State at Colorado

The Cyclones will rebound from the loss at Cincinnati with a big effort against a Colorado team that is winless in Big 12 play and 2-4 overall. Prediction: Iowa State 28, Colorado 16

No. 21 Arizona State at Utah

Utah got its act back together after the thumping by Texas Tech. The Sun Devils, led by Sam Leavitt at QB, are fortunate to be 4-1 with their last two conference wins coming each by a field goal. The magic runs out. Prediction: Utah 26, Arizona State 17

No. 20 Vanderbilt (Bye)

No. 19 Virginia (Bye)

No. 18 BYU at Arizona

BYU comes in undefeated but the competition has been far from stiff. The same could be said about Arizona, which was walloped by Iowa State when it faced a rugged opponent. Time to separate the pretender from the contender in the Big 12. Prediction: Arizona 23, BYU 21

NC State at No. 16 Notre Dame

The Fighting Irish wobble through another weak link in the ACC. Being an independent has its advantages when you get to play ACC teams that usually won't rough you up. That said, Notre Dame has to win and win impressively thanks to its opening two losses. Prediction: Notre Dame 38, NC State 13

No. 15 Michigan at USC

Teams that used to vie in the Rose Bowl game now play a Big Ten contest at the LA Coliseum. Sigh. Prediction: Michigan 23, USC 21

Virginia Tech at No. 13 Georgia Tech

The Yellow Jackets catch a Virginia Tech team that is in disarray in 2025. The coach is already gone and hopes for success are, too. Prediction: Georgia Tech 33, Virginia Tech 10

Arkansas at No. 12 Tennessee

The Razorbacks come to Tennessee led by intering coach Bobby Petrino. This shouldn't be an opportunity to impress the brass because Tennessee is powerful and should roll. Prediction: Tennessee 42, Arkansas 14

South Carolina at No. 11 LSU

A lot was expected from the Gamecocks but they already have two conference losses. The Tigers have an SEC loss to Ole Miss in their last game. They have no wiggle room if they want to make it to the SEC Championship Game. None. Prediction: LSU 31, South Carolina 23

No. 10 Georgia at Auburn

Auburn has lost to teams that were ranked 11th and ninth, respectively, in its last two games. Now, Georgia completes the sandwich as it is No. 10. Prediction: Georgia 26, Auburn 18

Kansas at No. 9 Texas Tech

Texas Tech has built a powerhouse in Lubbock. The Jayhawks are a mediocre team in the Big 12 and should become the next victim of a strong Red Raiders offense. Prediction: Texas Tech 43, Kansas 16

No. 8 Alabama at No. 17 Missouri

Missouri is undefeated and pretty much untested unless you want to consider a nine-point win over South Carolina worthy. Alabama has muscled up after its opening loss and continues a run against four straight ranked teams and six of seven. Prediction: Missouri 24, Alabama 21

No. 7 Indiana at No. 3 Oregon

A fantastic Big 12 game with both the Hoosiers and Ducks rolling into it undefeated. The Hoosiers are getting more than a touchdown and that feels like a huge line. It doesn't mean they will win. Prediction: Oregon 31, Indiana 27

No. 6 Oklahoma vs. Texas

Just seems so odd that Oklahoma is getting points against a Texas team that has fallen from its perch as preseason No. 1. Prediction: Texas 23, Oklahoma 20

Florida at No. 5 Texas A&M

The Gators can't play as well as they did at home in upsetting Texas. This feels like a game where the Aggies catch Florida at the right time. Prediction: Texas A&M 28, Florida 17

Washington State at No. 4 Ole Miss

Lane Kiffin gets a chance to cut loose everyone as they should -- and will -- romp. Prediction: Ole Miss 53, Washington State 6

2. Miami (Bye)

No. 1 Ohio State at No. 17 Illinois

Fascinating game in Champaign. The line is more than two TDs. That has to reflect what Indiana did to Illinois weeks back. The Buckeyes are top-ranked and have not given up more than nine points in a game. Think that is where the truth lies. The Fighting Illini will be tested trying to move the ball. Prediction: Ohio State 37, Illinois 13
