PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Two state ranked teams will battle for first Friday in Dunlap.
The unbeaten Eagles host once-beaten Washington in a game that could determine the Mid-Illini Conference champ. Both teams are 4-0 in league play.
“Obviously, their offense can run it a little bit, throw it a little bit. They have some good weapons at receiver,” said Washington coach Todd Stevens. “They have a good running back who runs hard. The offensive line is big. They can move some guys and that will be a challenge for us.”
Dunlap’s offense has bene led by quarterback Truman Tyra, running back Blake Dietz and tight end Mack Sutter. The Eagles (6-0) are trying to hand Washington (5-1) its first loss in the conference since 2022.
“People will look at records and rankings, look at that stuff but every week someone is capable of beating someone,” said Dunlap coach Brett Cazalet of the Mid-Illini Conference grind. “You’re playing somebody that is good. You just worry about this game. Right now this is our big game.”
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday.
