According to a WDTV 5 report, the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC) has suspended Braxton County High School’s head football coach Ezra Lewis for one year due to a rule infraction.
The Eagles are currently 3-3 on the season and are coming off a 34-14 victory over Poca last week and will take on Buffalo tomorrow night.
Per the WDTV report, Braxton County Schools Superintendent Dr. Donna Burge-Tetrick released a statement regarding Lewis’ suspension.
“On Monday, October 6, 2025, I was contacted by the WVSSAC regarding a potential rules violation by a member of the Braxton County High School Football Coaching Staff. Braxton County Schools fully cooperated with the WVSSAC. On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the WVSSAC suspended the coach for 365 days. Today, I appointed Billy McDonald as Acting Head Coach for the remainder of the 2025 football season. It is my expectation that coaching staff abide by all WVSSAC rules and regulations. The safety and well-being of our studnet athletes is of utmost importance.”
Braxton County is coming off three consecutive 1-9 seasons prior to this 2025 campaign, which has equaled the win total of the program from 2022-24. The last time the Eagles surpassed winning two or more games was back in 2020 when Braxton County finished with a 6-3 record.
Lewis was in the middle of his second season at the helm of the Eagles after going 1-9 in 2024.
