According to a News4Jax report on Thursday morning, Bartram Trail (Fla.) High School head football coach Cory Johns is out for this week’s game against Nease due to a self-reported possible rule violation.

The Bears are currently 2-4 on the season and are on a 2-game winning streak after starting the 2025 campaign 0-4.

Per the report by News4Jax’s Justin Barney, the school has self-reported themselves to the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) and assistant coach Tyler Thomas will stand in for Johns during his time away from the sidelines.

Bartram athletic director Ben Windle sent a letter out to parents informing them of the situation surrounding the football program, per the report. The following is an excerpt from the letter sent out by Windle.

“Yesterday I received information regarding a potential FHSAA violation involving Coach Johns. I proactively submitted a self-report to the FHSAA to allow them to review the situation independently. I’m hopeful for a prompt resolution.”

Johns, who is in his third year as lead man at Bartram Trail, was hired back in January of 2023, following up the only head coach the Bears have ever known in Darrell Sutherland, who had retired after 23 seasons at the helm.

Before landing at Bartram Trail, Johns was the lead man at Brooksville Nature Coast and Liberty, compiling an overall record of 52-48 during his time with the Sharks and Chargers, respectively. Through 29 games as Bears’ head coach, Johns has a record of 14-15.
