The are 1-4 and just made a couple of interesting trades to reshape their active roster. While the Tyson Campbell for Greg Newsome II trade is interesting, the decision to send Joe Flacco to the is an even more compelling one.

In the wake of Flacco's trade, the Browns now have just two quarterbacks on the active 53-man roster. Rookie third-rounder, and starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel, and 5th-rounder and new backup Shedeur Sanders.

While the QB room is now a lot younger and more intriguing, Browns writer Jason Lloyd of The Athletic is strongly calling upon the Browns to cut ties with Sanders to move forward as a franchise.

One of the main points that Lloyd initially brings up is his questioning of why Sanders is even on the roster. He identified two potential reasons why the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback is still on the team.

"Either the owner is recruiting it or there is a fear held by someone in the building that Sanders will develop elsewhere and turn into this franchise's next Baker Mayfield horror story." Lloyd writes.

If the owner, Jimmy Haslam, is meddling with the front office's decision to keep Sanders on the roster or not, it wouldn't be that far-fetched. He's been involved in moves before, and unfortunately, he's helped make some regrettable moves over the years.

The other scenario, in which the Browns, or someone high up in the Browns organization, fears that Sanders will develop into a star quarterback, isn't the most sound reason to keep him. But it's Week 6 of Sanders's rookie season. Cutting ties with him now might be premature.

But in Lloyd's opinion, "I'm tired of writing about and mentioning Sanders, a player who hasn't taken a meaningful snap since August 23rd. I thought it was outrageous we're into October and still wasting so much time discussing the third-string quarterback of any NFL team."

However, the Flacco trade has reignited conversations about Sanders. Now he's expected to be the backup quarterback, and with the media attention Sanders draws, it's easy to see how, on the verge of getting NFL reps, there's a lot more discussion about Sanders.

But, with Kevin Stefanski not committing to Sanders as the backup quarterback, the polarizing backup quarterback might not be the backup just yet. Bailey Zappe could be the Browns' backup for Week 6, as Sanders continues to be the third quarterback on the depth chart.

"Sanders' legion of fans would rather believe it's the incompetent team he is with and not the idea that he might just not be a very good NFL quarterback," Lloyd writes.

While Sanders has yet to prove anything at the NFL level, he hasn't had much of a chance to do so. But the constant questions and media attention he brings have Lloyd hoping the Browns move on from him in some capacity.

Whether it's a trade or an outright release, Lloyd wants the Browns to end the Shedeur Sanders era in Cleveland before it could even begin.
