The Red Devils have made another underwhelming start in the ongoing campaign, winning only three out of their eight games across competitions.

After not making it to any European competitions this season, Man United were also eliminated from the second round of the Carabao Cup after losing to EFL League Two club Grimsby Town in August.

Man United's persistent struggles under head coach Ruben Amorim, who took charge at Old Trafford in November 2024, have brought heavy criticism along with reports suggesting his possible dismissal.

With only 19 wins in 50 matches, Amorim's 29% win rate has also raised questions about the Portuguese's tactics and managerial capabilities, with many losing faith in him to turn things around at United.

Now, former Man United captain Roy Keane has named current Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone as a replacement for Amorim, stating that the Argentine manager's big personality, which could 'create good havoc' at Old Trafford, makes him ideal for the role.

What did Manchester United legend Roy Keane say?

While speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Keane explained why he thinks Simeone would be a good fit for Man United, citing some of the recent events in Atletico Madrid's recent games as examples, and said,

"I've said it for years, I'd like Atletico Madrid's (Diego) Simeone to go in there. I'd like to see him go there. I know his mate has gone to [Andrea Berta]. I think he would just create havoc, but good havoc. He'd rock up to that place," as per GOAL.

"No guarantees, but I'd just like to see his personality, his track record. People might think styles of football, they scored five against last weekend. He doesn't like his teams giving up too many goals or chances, but they can play a bit and fight."

"At a few weeks ago, the team aren't as great as few years ago, but they still had fighting spirit. He's on the sideline, he got sent off that night, I'd like a big personality."

Following his time at the Spanish club during his playing career, Simeone returned to Atletico Madrid as their manager in 2011. In his ongoing 14-year managerial tenure there, he has led the Rojiblancos to win 18 trophies, including two La Liga titles.

Despite Keane's wish, it is unlikely that Simeone would part ways with Atletico Madrid, being the second-longest-serving manager in Europe's top five leagues currently.

In 2016, Simeone spoke of finding the Premier League intriguing. However, with his current contract at the Spanish giants valid until the summer of 2027, the La Liga manager has rarely been linked with desiring a move to other clubs amid reported interest from other clubs.
