Chelsea youngster “worth £30m” but can’t get minutes ahead of Marc Guiu at Stamford Bridge

The Daily Mail have done a rundown of the 6 top England youngsters around, and we’re happy to say there’s one Chelsea player on the list – Shim Mheuka.

The striker has been on fire in the youth ranks for a few years now, and has made his debut for Enzo Maresca’s first team too. He’s got 15 goals for club and country, and we’re not even halfway through October.

Striker would be worth £30m with senior appearances

Shim Mheuka prepares for his senior Chelsea debut.

“If Shim was in Belgium or the Netherlands playing games and scoring goals, he’d be worth £20-30million and that’s the issue our young players have,” they quote the Secret Scout as saying.

Chelsea are certainly not making it easy for him. “The main concern around Mheuka… is whether he can consistently break into Chelsea’s first team.

“‘The talent is there but how do you break through into the toughest league in the world?”

With Nicolas Jackson gone, Liam Delap injured and Joao Pedro out and Marc Guiu not yet fit, we’ve just had the perfect chance to give Shim some starts. Instead, predictably, Enzo Maresca preferred Tyrique George up front and now will wheel out Guiu.

Ambitious Mheuka won’t stay patient forever as he waits for his big shot

We remember Steve Sidwell’s story about coaching him in the Brighton youth ranks too:

“I coached Shimmy when he was at Brighton,” Sidwell explained.

“I was doing the Under-16s and he was a 14-year-old then and demanding about how he should be playing, starting, for the Under-16s which goes to show the confidence the young man has in joining in.”

One wonders at what point Mheuka might do something similar at Chelsea and demand to leave so he can play at a higher level. A certain Rio Ngumoha is also on that list…
