Jon Rahm admits he was nervous playing golf with Carlos Alcaraz; considers new hairstyle

By the time he tees it up at Augusta National next spring, could Jon Rahm be sporting a blonde boy-band hairstyle?

By the time he tees it up at Augusta National next spring, could Jon Rahm be sporting a blond boy-band look?

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Rahm, who spent some time this week with tennis star Carlos Alcaraz this week during the pro-am of the 2025 Spanish Open at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, said he's been considering changing his style a bit as the new year approaches. When asked if he'd consider something as drastic as Alcaraz's blonde coiffure, Rahm laughed.

"I don’t know if I’ll be doing that. He told me the story as to what happened and why he ended up with the short haircut," Rahm said of the world's No. 1 tennis star. "I have been thinking about getting rid of some of the hair I have, but more so with the beard than the entire head."

Alcaraz's smooth swing drew positive reviews on social media this week as he played nine holes with his countryman. Alcaraz, 22, is the second-youngest man in the Open Era to win six Grand Slam titles.

"It was hard to tell who was more nervous," Rahm said during a walk-and-talk with Sky Sports of his meeting with Alcaraz. "I was quite impressed to meet him. Obviously, I’m a fan. I like tennis, although I don’t play, but I watch it and follow it a lot. Carlos was there playing golf with me, so he said he was scared of whiffing the ball on the first tee.

"But it was a great time, and it was too bad it was only nine holes, but he got to spend that with Shane Lowry, which is always a good time. I’m hoping we get to spend more time together in the future, but with his schedule and mine, that could be quite difficult to do."

Rahm snapped at official during Thursday's round

Rahm's mood improved on Friday as he had a stretch of four birdies in five holes on the opening round of the second round. On Thursday, during a 1-over par 27, Rahm got snippy with an official, according to a story at Newsweek:

On Thursday, after a wayward drive landed in the left rough on the par-4 eighth hole, Rahm’s mood soured. Upon seeing his lie, he muttered, “What a day, what a day,” followed by an expletive.

When the marshal marking his ball tried to reassure him with a simple “It’s OK,” Rahm snapped back, “Don’t tell me it’s OK, please. Thank you.”

The marshal quickly apologized and walked away, while Rahm continued venting: “It’s not OK.”

The frustration stemmed from his rocky start on Thursday. Rahm opened with two bogeys in his first two holes, struggling to find his rhythm on the front nine.

The Spanish Open isn't a throwaway week for Rahm, who had a chance to win the 2024 Spanish Open — in what would've been his fourth victory in the event – with an eagle on the final hole.

He couldn't pull it off but did get a birdie-birdie finish to shoot a final-round 68. But then Angel Hidalgo missed his putt on the last and off to a playoff they went, tied at 14 under at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid in Madrid, Spain. He eventually lost in a playoff.

Jon Rahm recaps three favorite Ryder Cup moments

Jon Rahm of Team Europe celebrates with fans after Team Europe's 15-13 win over Team United States during the Sunday singles matches of the 2025 Ryder Cup at Black Course at Bethpage State Park Golf Course on September 28, 2025 in Farmingdale, New York.

On Friday, Rahm recalled what he said were his best three moments of the Ryder Cup, as the Europeans topped the Americans at Bethpage Black.

"Personally, that chip-in on eight with Tyrrell on Saturday morning was one of the better shots of my life from the lie, especially that it went in," he said. "Probably above that, I was there in person when Shane hit the putt on 18. I had a perfect view. Being there for that was quite incredible.

"And I'll say No, 3, as a whole, the time we spent together, but the bus ride back to the hotel, I'm sure a lot of people have seen the videos, but to be able to be a part of that. It was a lot of fun, as you can tell, and it's really special and it's something we all think about."
