Seahawks at Jaguars predictions: Week 6 matchup features two top defenses

The Seahawks visit Jacksonville for the first time since 2017. The last time the two teams played was in Seattle in 2021. Here are our expert picks.

The last time the Seattle Seahawks won a game in Jacksonville, the United States didn't know who its President would be.

The Seahawks defeated the Jaguars on Nov. 12, 2000, at Alltel Stadium, now known as EverBank Stadium.

The Presidential Election was held five days prior, and through the magic of dangling chads and other issues, we wouldn't know that George W. Bush had defeated Al Gore until Dec. 12, 2000.

Since then, the Seahawks have played two more times in Jacksonville — in 2005 and 2017 — with the Jaguars winning both.

By comparison, the Jaguars have never won in Seattle.

The all-time series is led by the Seahawks 6-3, with Jacksonville 0-4 out west, and 3-2 at home.

Their last meeting was on Halloween 2021, with the Jaguars suffering a frightening defeat, 31-7.

This year's Jaguars are nothing like that doomed Urban Meyer-led squad.

Jacksonville is 4-1 and coming off a Monday Night Football victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Seahawks are coming off a tough last-second loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Who has the edge this week? Here's what our experts have to say.

The Seahawks are banged up, but their front seven can get after it against the run, and I am not sure about Jacksonville's passing game, especially without tight end Brenton Strange.

Seattle’s defensive front will make running the ball hard, which means this is a game Trevor Lawrence and the pass game must win. That’s been inconsistent in 2025, but what hasn’t been inconsistent is that this team has made plays late in games to win. That continues with a Cam Little field goal.

Time for the Jaguars’ defense to respond after they were diced by Kansas City in Week 5 for a season-high 158 yards rushing, season-high 476 total yards and a season-low no sacks … but still scored a touchdown on Devin Lloyd’s 99-yard interception return in the 31-28 win.

“We have a lot to fix up and put our standard back on tape,” linebacker Foye Oluokun said.

The fix-up list:

Pass rush: If the Jaguars get defensive end Travon Walker (left wrist surgery) back from a one-game absence, that will help, but they need to get more of an interior pass rush. Does coordinator Anthony Campanile go back to his blitz-heavy ways of Weeks 1-2? I would challenge Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold to throw on the run.

Explosive plays (rush of at least 12/pass of at least 16): The Jaguars allowed a season-high nine by Kansas City, including gains of 34 and 32 yards.

Third down: The Jaguars rank 30th in the league, allowing opponents to convert at a clip of 47% (31 of 66). They’re OK when opponents need seven of more yards (6 of 24), but need to get things buttoned up on early downs; the Chiefs had five third-and-2 plays (three conversions).

This should be an entertaining game and the Seahawks fly cross country to end the Jaguars’ three-game winning streak.

I think this is another shootout. Two good offenses at work here but Seattle is banged up on defense and vulnerable to the pass. Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold is 1-2 as a starter in Jacksonville and has a 63.46 passer rating, with double the interceptions to touchdown passes (6-3). I don't think this coaching staff allows this to be a "trap" game.

The Jaguars were one questionable DPI call from being undefeated.

The Jaguars are officially hot, and even though they're playing on a short week, Trevor Lawrence and company should stack up some yardage on a Seahawks defense with a fast-growing ouch list. That could be enough.... provided that a reshaped Jaguars secondary can contain the NFL's No. 1 passer in yards per attempt, the productive but interceptable Sam Darnold.

Season: 2-3 (Lost last week)

I'm going with the hot hand in this one. The Jaguars' defense is playing at a high level while the Seahawks have to travel 3,000 miles for a 1 p.m. start. That's tough for anyone. Sam Darnold likes to sling the ball, and the Jaguars have a new-found interest in intercepting it. Look for the Jags to establish the running game early, and I expect a more confident Trevor Lawrence to make things happen again.
