OC Frank Smith remains uncertain with 2025 draft pick Jonah Savaiinaea
After the Miami Dolphins traded up into the second round of April's draft, the team selected Arizona guard Jonah Savaiinaea. It appears that his production on the field hasn't been as promising as the team was hoping for.
Savaiinaea, 21, has opened the season at left guard after spending most of his college career on the right side. Some have suggested the Dolphins move the young lineman back to his original position.
"I don't necessarily know that the easiest solution," offensive coordinator Frank Smith said on Thursday, according to Dante Collinelli of SI.com. "I know it's always just when you're a rookie, there's a process to it. Everyone wants it to be perfect and ready to go. He's (Savaiinaea) working to improve.
Of course, there's more to the Dolphins' nightmare start to the 2025 season, but getting some momentum on the offensive side of the ball could be that spark that's needed moving forward.
Miami ranks 30th in the NFL in rushing yards per game (82.2) but sits near the middle of the league in sacks allowed (11), thanks in part to its quick passing scheme.
If the Dolphins' one-two punch on offense can work through its growing pains, young players like Savaiinaea could start to find their rhythm and put together performances.
