Why the Milwaukee Bucks shared a Bible verse on social media this week

The Milwaukee Bucks players took over the team’s social media on Wednesday and one decided to post a scripture verse.

The Milwaukee Bucks’ X content may have looked a little different on Wednesday.

That’s because the social media team briefly handed over the controls of its account to Bucks players and gave each player the chance to write a post.

Most players expressed their excitement for the new season. Two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo wrote, “This is giannis speaking people!!!! Im excited for the season!!!!! Lets get some WWWWWWWW! #BBQchicken."

Shooting guard AJ Green decided to take a different approach. Green shared the Bible verse, John 14:6.

Green wrote, “Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

The next day, Green went off in the Bucks’ preseason game against the Detroit Pistons. He finished the night with 22 points and made all five of his 3-pointers.

AJ Green’s faith

Green played college basketball at Northern Iowa. He went undrafted in the 2022 NBA draft but signed a two-way contract with the Bucks in July 2022.

After playing 35 games in his rookie season, he signed a three-year $6.3 million deal with the Bucks in 2023, according to Spotrac.

Green has a history of sharing Bible verses on social media. He concluded his NBA draft declaration with the scripture citation 1 Timothy 4:8-9.

In the caption of an October 2022 post, he wrote, “Year 1. Colossians 3:23-24.”

Green has also been open about his faith in interviews and the role it plays in his life.

“It always brings me back to what truly matters and the big perspective of life and why I’m doing what I’m doing, and how I blessed I am to have these gifts to go compete and to try and represent God in what I do, in how I play and share that with my teammates and people around me,” he told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “So that’s really what I’ve had to come back to. That is why I’m here in Milwaukee. That’s why I’m in the NBA, is for that purpose.”

He told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that his three favorite Bible verses are Corinthians 12:9, Romans 8:31 and Romans 12:1-2, the latter of which he wears on a bracelet.
