District Preview: Permian enters district play on a four-game win streak

ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The Permian Panthers wrapped up their non-district schedule on a four-game win streak with a 4-1 record. Out of the five games, MOJO outscored its opponents 141-106.

On the offensive side, senior quarterback and captain Jakob Garcia has led the offense to average over 28 points per game.

“It’s an awesome experience, especially this time being a senior captain. You know, you kind of have more on your shoulders. You’re expected more out of the people who surround you,” Garcia said.

For Permian, the non-district schedule is in the past, and they are now 0-0 as they enter play in District 2-6A, and they’re looking to send an early message.

“Not only is it just the rivalry of Odessa, but it’s our first district game, and this sets the tone for you for the rest of your district season,” head coach Jeff Ellison said.

The Panthers start district facing their long-time opponent and cross-town rival with the 0-5 Odessa Bronchos, and the team says confidence and energy will play a big factor in district game number one.

“Energy has been a big thing for us on the sidelines and even on the field, so keeping the energy up, and knowing what we have to do, and keeping our heads sharp is the key,” senior defensive lineman and captain Coffie Powell said.

“We’ve come a long way from week one. I’m glad that we’re progressing the way we are, and we’re a lot more energetic,” senior linebacker and captain Caleb Jamison said.

Now, the Panthers look to take the energy and confidence as they look to claim their first district title since 2022 and their first outright district title since 2008.
