ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The 18 Sports Blitz returned with another big night of games!
This week’s edition of the Blitz was highlighted by several high stakes football games. Multiple local squads put their unbeaten or 1 loss seasons on the line, as well as their homecoming festivities. Of the top games, Waverly outlasted Maine-Endwell, Horseheads fell to Union-Endicott, and Troy cruised past North Penn-Mansfield.
The 4th ranked Wolverines rallied past the Spartans 28-20, seeing 2nd half touchdowns from Ben Shaw, Cooper Robinson, and Dalton Davis. Paired with an outstanding defensive effort, Waverly improved to (6-0) in the final seconds of their homecoming Class B showdown.
Horseheads was not as fortunate on the road, seeing their unbeaten season come to a close with a 21-19 setback in Endicott. The Blue Raiders battled through the 2nd half with 2 scores by running back Bryce Thomas, but fell short on a game-tying 2-point try.
In the Northern Tier, Troy celebrated their homecoming game with a 58-10 victory over North Penn-Mansfield. Despite an early fight from the Panthers, the Trojans rolled to a (7-1) overall record.
