Oscar Mingueza has made a name for himself as a reliable right-back after leaving Barcelona for Celta Vigo in 2022.
But even though it has been more than three years since he left Barcelona, the Catalans have still retained 50% control of the player’s transfer rights.
That means the Blaugrana are entitled to half of Mingueza’s transfer value, should he leave Celta Vigo.
Mingueza yet to renew his contract
However, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are running the risk of losing their leverage on Mingueza’s future.
That is because the defender’s contract at Celta Vigo expires at the end of the season, with the player yet to renew his contract.
If the right-back doesn’t renew his contract this season and ends up leaving Celta Vigo on a free transfer, Barcelona won’t be able to yield any inflows from the clause.

The value of Mingueza’s release clause stands at around €20 million, which means Barcelona could have gained as much as €10 million from a potential sale.
This essentially means a missed revenue opportunity for a Barcelona team looking to remain operationally profitable for the 2025/26 campaign.
There is still hope for Barcelona, though. Mingueza, for his part, feels comfortable at Celta Vigo, who have not given up on their efforts to renew the player’s contract.
“I have no idea. I’m focused on doing my best, but right now there’s nothing,” he told SER when asked about his future recently. “I’m fine here, I’m very comfortable. I’m very happy, very content, and eager to stay here.”
Even if Mingueza does leave the club, Barcelona could still be in contention to gain €10 million if any interested party activate the defender’s €20 million release clause in January.
