Former Chelsea player Jody Morris doesn’t believe the Blues have played particularly well at the start of this season.
Chelsea recorded a much needed last minute win against Liverpool last weekend, which was just their third win in their opening seven league games.
The win moved the Blues up to seventh in the table, and five points behind early leaders Arsenal, but they really need to push on after the international break.
Jody Morris on Chelsea form this season
Having won two trophies and qualified for the Champions League last season, the expectation has certainly gone up for the new campaign.
Given the fixtures at the start of the season, Chelsea will be disappointed not to have more points on the board, and have certainly thrown points away through poor mistakes and red cards.
Morris doesn’t think Chelsea have played well this season.
Chelsea have also had a number of injury problem to contend with, although this should be eased after the international break, but Morris believes the Blues haven’t played well this season.
“Our performance in the Club World Cup, particularly the final, probably the best performance I’ve seen in a final from a Chelsea team, it was outstanding,” he said as quoted on X.com.
“So, rightly so, the expectation levels have gone up. And if we’re being honest, I don’t think we’ve played that well at all this season.”
Champions League football the expectation again
The expectation for Chelsea is to one again qualify for the Champions League, and go as deep into the cup competitions as possible.

Fans might feel that’s slightly underwhelming given the success last season, but it’s clear the team isn’t ready to challenge for the league title.
The first thing Chelsea need to do is close the gap on Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City, but consistency over a sustained period has been an issue for the Blues, but hopefully this season that starts to change.
