The Juventus Women's First Team were unable to get their first win of the new Serie A Women season on Matchday 2, with Como Women taking all three points from Biella in a game that was decided by a single goal.
THE MATCH
It was the Bianconere who looked the more likely to find the opener in the first quarter of an hour, although clear-cut chances were few and far between. Cristiana Girelli looked to get in on the end of an Emma Stolen Godo cross, but Astrid Gilardi was alert to the danger in the Como goal.
The visitors had their first chance shortly after. Ex-Bianconera Alisha Lehmann cut in from the left, but her curling effort was off target. Zara Kramzar was the next to try force a chance, but Nadine Nischler wasn’t able to make contact with her cross.
Danielle de Jong was on hand to make a superb save to keep out Matilde Pavan - on loan at Como from Juventus. But from there the game’s tempo slowed considerably.
As half-time neared, the Bianconere pushed that bit more again, but Gilardi had plans of her own - first denying Godo and then Chiara Beccari.
The half came to an end as Cristiana Girelli fired a free-kick into the Como wall, before Paulina Krumbiegel poked an effort just wide on the end of a subsequent cross. And so the two sides went in level at the break.
Barbara Bonansea came on for Krumbiegel to start the second half, in an attempt to boost the attacking efforts. The first chance came within a few minutes as Emma Kullberg found herself at the back post, but could only send her volley into the side netting.
Massimiliano Canzi’s side continued to press up the field, but Como were resilient.
Beccari went closest to finding the opener in a chance she carved out herself. Cutting in from the left, she looked to find the far corner but her excellent effort came off the post.
With time running out, it was starting to look like there would be no goals scored, especially after Amalie Vangsgaard saw a headed effort of her own creep wide of the upright.
But Como made a chance count at the other end. A cross found Nischler free at the back post, and she did well to keep her volleyed effort controled and low, finding the back of net.
The Bianconere then went in search of an equaliser, but it wasn’t to come. And so, Como head back to Lombardia with all three points after their first-ever win over Juventus.
