Marion Local's high school football winning streak nearly came to an end for the second time in three weeks.

But in the end, the standouts from Maria Stein, Ohio won again.

The streak now stands at 72 wins in a row.

Marion Local needed double-overtime to edge Anna on Friday night, 28-27.

The Steiners needed every bit of help a couple weeks ago to top Versailles, 28-27.

This time, Anna put up quite the fight, taking a couple of leads in the first half.

Anna also scored first in overtime to go up 21-14.

Marion Local equalized, then took the lead in the second OT.

Anna answered with a touchdown and went for 2 and the win, trying to end the streak at 71.

But a deflected pass preserved the win streak for at least another week.

Marion Local's Kamden Eifert was the hero, running for 155 yards and all four of the Flyers' touchdowns.

“It was just a mindset,”  Eifert told local reporter Sonny Fulks of Press Pros on Friday night.  “That and my offensive line giving me enough of a hole.  I couldn’t do that without them.  It’s a team game.”

Marion Local has a pair of regular season games remaining.

First up in Week 9 is Minster, a 5-3 team.

And then it's the classic Week 10 showdown with Coldwater, which is also 5-3 right now.

Marion Local will be the favorite until proven otherwise, although these calls have gotten quite close of late.
