See which Shawnee County tennis players qualified for the state tournament

It was a busy weekend of regional tennis action around the state. See which Shawnee County players punched their ticket to next week's state tournament.

TOPEKA — The postseason is underway for fall sports in the Sunflower State. Tennis is the first sport to take centerstage, and it all began with regional play on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 10-11. 

The top six singles players and top six doubles teams from each region have qualified for next week’s state championship tournament. Shawnee County will be well represented at next week’s state tournament in all classifications. 

Here’s who qualified from the Topeka-area for the state tournament. 

Class 6A

Singles

  • Madeline Deters, Topeka High
  • Bridget Hoopes, Washburn Rural 

Doubles

  • Julia Katzer and Halle Owen, Washburn Rural
  • Ava Ritter and Hailey Caryl, Topeka High
  • Alizah Chedzoy and Annie Henderson, Washburn Rural 

Class 5A

Singles

  • Emma Sweeney, Seaman 
  • Molly Gorman, Seaman 

Doubles

  • Camryn Lux and Peyton Henry, Seaman
  • Cadence Speer and Laylyn Hiebsch, Seaman
  • Jordan Felsburg and Taryn Gilbert, Topeka West
