Turkey Star Puts Transfer Rumours To Rest: ‘Nothing Happened This Summer, I’m Happy At Inter Milan’

Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu says that “nothing happened” this summer despite transfer rumours, and that he’s “happy” at Inter Milan.

The Turkish international spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, after his team’s 6-1 World Cup qualifying win over Bulgaria. He put the summer of speculation to rest.

This summer, Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu was the subject of persistent transfer rumours.

The former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen man was reportedly a major target for Galatasaray.

All of these rumours came to a head at the end of June. At the same time as all the speculation regarding Calhanoglu’s future was brewing, Inter were in action at the Club World Cup.

After the Nerazzurri were dumped out of that tournament at the round of sixteen stage by Fluminense, club captain Lautaro Martinez made some very fiery remarks.

Martinez declared that “whoever doesn’t want to stay, should leave.” These comments were widely interpreted as a dig at Calhanoglu over the transfer rumours.

Therefore, the sense grew that it was only a matter of time before Calhanoglu would be on his way.

In the end, however, Hakan Calhanoglu stayed at Inter.

The 31-year-old had already remained at the Nerazzurri the previous summer. This amid strong transfer links to Bayern Munich.

And once again, Calhanoglu has stayed at Inter, the club he joined on a free transfer in 2021.

Calhanoglu has continued to be a key pillar of Inter’s starting eleven under new coach Cristian Chivu in the first few weeks of the current season.

The Turkish international opened up about the situation this summer. “Nothing happened,” he claimed.

“I was always an Inter player,” he said. “And I’ve always been happy to stay here.”

“I’ve given everything for this club,” Calhanoglu added. “Because I’m an Inter player, and nothing has changed.”

“Things have always stayed as they are,” the 31-year-old said. “And nothing has changed. I’ve always given my all.”
