Justin Fields isn't getting the job done for the .

With the caveat that these words are being written midway through the Jets' Week 6 game against the , knowing things could change, it has to be noted that Fields simply hasn't been good enough.

Really, there's one problem above all the others right now.

Fields doesn't appear to be processing quickly enough. He's holding the ball too long. He's not getting rid of it, or finding an escape route, before the defense gets to him.

It's not a one week thing, but it showed up multiple times during Sunday's first half when Fields took a sack that took a heck of a long time to develop.

With his mobility, Fields shouldn't be standing back there forever only to be sacked.

"Justin Fields is killing the #Jets. Holding the ball forever," wrote SNY's Connor Hughes on X. "The processing concerns really showing themselves the last few weeks. That was good protection. Ball needs to come out. Garrett Wilson was open."

Those sentences could've been written at any number of moments throughout Sunday's game.

Fields got out of the gates on fire with a great Week 1 start against the .

But against the Bills in Week 2, he struggled and then was concussed.

This hasn't been the guy the Jets wanted when they signed him in free agency to replace Aaron Rodgers.

An 0-5 start means the Jets probably don't have to change anything. They're better off seeing if Fields can figure it out.

But right now, it's taking Fields too long to make sense of situations.
