Instead of handing off to Derrick Henry, the Ravens ran twice with tight end Mark Andrews at the goal line. It didn't end well.
Maybe there's a reason that teams other than the Eagles don't run the tush push.
The Baltimore Ravens tried it twice at the goal line Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. They got stuffed both times and are lucky that they didn't turn the ball over for a Rams defensive touchdown.
The Ravens employed the tush push late in the second quarter with the game tied at 3-3. They faced second-and-goal from inside the 1-yard line after a 3-yard run on first down by Derrick Henry.
But they didn't give the ball right back to one of the game's most dangerous goal-line runners. Instead, they lined up in tush-push formation with tight end Mark Andrews under center.

Andrews took the quick snap to try to catch the Rams off guard. But the Rams were ready and stuffed the run short of the end zone. When it didn't work, the Ravens went right back to it for another tush-push attempt, again with Andrews under center.
Again, the Rams stuffed Andrews. And this time, they forced the ball loose.
With Andrews stood up at the goal line, the ball bounced to the turf after a strip and back toward the opposite end zone. Linebacker Jared Verse picked it up and had a clean look at what likely would have been a 97-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

But officials blew the play dead, declaring that forward progress had been stopped.
It was a late whistle that only came after Verse had recovered the ball. And it was a questionable call at best. Since they didn't blow the whistle before the fumble, Andrews still could have still conceivably crossed the goal line for a touchdown. Would officials have blown a late whistle in that instance, or would a potential touchdown have counted?
We'll never know. But a potential go-ahead Rams touchdown was not to be.
Either way, the Rams came up with another stop on fourth down to keep the Ravens out of the end zone. Baltimore abandoned the tush push this time and instead opted to hand off to Henry on fourth-and-goal.
And the tush push remains the realm of the Philadelphia Eagles.
