The FHSAA recently modified the punishment assessed to the North Fort Myers girls' soccer program for improper contact nearly four years ago.
The Florida High School Athletic Association reduced the penalties levied against the North Fort Myers girls' soccer program in May for improperly contacting the parents of prospective students four years ago.
Initially, the organization assessed $15,000 in fines and a six-week suspension for Red Knights soccer coach Nick Erickson. The fines were in increments of $5,000 each for Erickson, North athletic director Joe Bowen and the high school itself.
At a sectional appeals hearing in late September, the FHSAA eliminated the fine for Bowen because it determined he did not violate its policy on recruiting. It also reduced North Fort Myers's fine to $2,500, but noted it would hold $2,250 in abeyance for the rest of the 2025-26 school year, provided the school doesn't commit any additional violations.
The FHSAA kept Erickson's fine at $5,000 but reduced his suspension to four contests, beginning with the 2025-26 preseason.
The News-Press filed a request for the FHSAA's findings from the Sept. 18 infractions committee meeting on Sept. 24, but did not receive the results of the hearing until Oct. 8.
Erickson will have one final opportunity to appeal his punishment when the FHSAA's board of directors meets on Nov. 2 and 3 in Gainesville.
