Vote for Ames Tribune female Athlete of the Week for Oct. 5-11

Here are the Ames Tribune female Athlete of the Week candidates for the week of Oct. 5-11.

The week of Oct. 5-11 was another action-packed week of female high school athletics in the Ames area.

The Ames and Roland-Story volleyball teams competed at the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Invitational, Class 4A No. 11 Ballard defeated old rival North Polk, and both the Bombers and Gilbert competed at the Indianola Invitational.

In cross country, Ames and Ballard ran at Fort Dodge, and Roland-Story, Collins-Maxwell and Colo-NESCO at South Hamilton. Gilbert, Nevada and Collins-Maxwell competed at North Polk.

The Ames girls swimming defeated Des Moines North by a 129-54 score on Oct. 7 at the Dan Flannery Pool in Ames.

There were several outstanding performances from area female athletes during the week.

Morgan Stagg, Ames

Morgan Stagg had 11 kills during the Ames volleyball team's win over Fort Dodge on Oct. 7 in Ames.

Stagg had a big match at outside hitter for the Ames volleyball team during a 25-13, 25-16, 25-6 victory over Fort Dodge on Oct. 7 at Ames.

Stagg stepped up with 11 kills on an outstanding 56% efficiency rate. She also had five digs and two blocks.

Jayden Peters, Collins-Maxwell

Peters ran a great race to place in the top five individually for the Collins-Maxwell girls cross country team at the South Hamilton Invitational on Oct. 9 in Jewell.

Peters placed fourth individually during the race. She ran a 5-kilometer time of 20 minutes, 0.71 seconds.

Elizabeth Erickson, Colo-NESCO

Erickson placed right behind Peters during the varsity girls race at the South Hamilton Invitational on Oct. 9 in Jewell.

The Colo-NESCO junior clocked in at 20:01.55 to end up in fifth place.

Keira Andersen, Gilbert

Anderson won the varsity girls race for the Gilbert girls cross country team during the North Polk Invitational on Oct. 6 in Alleman.

Anderson ran the 5-kilometer course in 18:54.68. She won the race by 21.52 seconds over Van Meter's Laura Streck.

Miley Geise, Roland-Story

Geise did a terrific job at setter for the Roland-Story volleyball team during an exciting 25-20, 17-25, 29-31, 25-19, 15-13 victory over Prairie City-Monroe that clinched the Heart of Iowa Conference championship for the Norse on Oct. 6 at Monroe.

Geise dished out 42 assists to help Roland-Story repeat as HOIC champions. She also finished the match with seven digs and kills apiece, three aces and two blocks.
