Manchester United are hoping to negotiate a swift resolution to Harry Maguire’s uncertain future before the end of the year.
As things stand, the centre-half has just eight months remaining on his deal at Old Trafford after the club activated his one-year extension at the start of 2025.
This meant Maguire was tied to United until June 2026 as opposed to this summer, which would’ve left Ruben Amorim with too few options in central defence – and not enough funds to facilitate a replacement.

Despite the former Leicester City star turning 32 in March, INEOS are keen to keep him on the books in M16, with his experience proving beneficial for both Amorim and some of the younger players in the squad.
Alas, club chiefs have now opened discussions with Maguire to reach an agreement over his new terms.
A new contract would see the Englishman’s tenure extended beyond seven years, making him one of the longest-serving Reds currently in the side; his fellow defender Luke Shaw takes the top spot, having joined from Southampton all the way back in 2014.
Maguire will have to accept salary change if he is to sign fresh terms
Reports have suggested Maguire would likely have to take a pay cut on his current £190,000-a-week wages to stay put, although the exact amount has yet to be confirmed. One thing’s for sure: he won’t see his wages increased.
Fabrizio Romano already confirmed that when he was pressed on the matter by GiveMeSport, to which he responded: “No [he won’t be receiving a pay rise]. It would have to be a different salary structure for Maguire in order to make it happen, talks are taking place.”
Maguire has featured six times in the seven Premier League matches United have played this season, including starts against both Chelsea and Brentford.
