A scare about the health of Estevao Willian has been quickly wiped away by pictures of him training with Brazil today.
There were reports that he had picked up a flu, but clearly he’s fine (and certainly not contagious) as he worked with Carlo. As some online have joked, “he didn’t have a temperature, he was just too hot to handle.”
Estevao followed his winning goal for Chelsea at the weekend with a brace for his country against South Korea last week.
Estevao likely to be worked back in gently despite amazing form
Estevao trains with Brazil despite rumours of a flu.
Assuming he is fit and healthy, we still wouldn’t expect Estevao to start. For one, he’s going to have travelled to South American and back during this break, on top of minutes in both games for Brazil. Chucking him into an early kick off on Saturday would seem ambitious.
Even ignoring that, there’s the bigger picture with him. Enzo Maresca and his coaching staff are making a big effort to integrate him slowly and responsibly. The hype is well deserved, but it’s easy to forget how young he is. Easing him into first team duties slowly is an eminently sensible idea.
Just expect him to be dynamite off the bench in the second half, on Saturday, as usual. We’re happy enough with that. Let Pedro Neto wear them out, then Estevao finish them off.
In other news…
Chelsea continue to try and find a home for Axel Disasi, the defender they’ve been trying to shift for over a year now.
The Blues are already lining up a potential Disasi replacement for next summer – Ronald Araujo of Barcelona has been linked with a summer move to the Blues once again, although we have our doubts about the finances of a potential deal.
