Oct. 13 (UPI) -- The Tennessee Titans fired head coach Brian Callahan after a 1-5 start, including a 20-10 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6, president of football operations Chad Brinker announced Monday.

Brinker did not name an interim coach. Callahan led the Titans to a 3-14 record in 2024, his first season as an NFL head coach. The 2025 Titans lost their first four games before a Week 5 win over the Arizona Cardinals. That victory snapped a losing streak 10 consecutive games dating to 2024.

"After extended conversations with our owner and general manager, we met with Brian Callahan this morning to tell him we are making a change at head coach," Brinker said in a news release. "These decisions are never easy, and they become more difficult when they involve people of great character.

"We are grateful for Brian's investment in the Titans and Tennessee community during his tenure as head coach. We thank him and his family for being exemplary ambassadors of the Tennessee Titans."

The 2024 Titans had the second-best defense in the NFL, in terms of yards allowed, but the team allowed the third-most points. The Titans had the seventh-worst offense in the league.

The 2025 Titans, led by rookie quarterback Cam Ward, totaled the fewest yards and second-fewest points in the NFL through six weeks. The Titans' defense ranks 22nd in yards allowed and 26th in points allowed. They were outscored 161-83 over their first six games.

"While we are committed to a patient and strategic plan to build a sustainable, winning football program, we have not demonstrated sufficient growth," Brinker said.

"Our players, fans, and community deserve a football team that achieves a standard we are not currently meeting, and we are committed to making the hard decisions necessary to reach and maintain that standard."

The Titans will host the New England Patriots (4-2) at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday in Nashville.
