Titans fire coach days before Mike Vrabel returns to Tennessee

The move comes days after Mike Vrabel returns to Tennessee with the Patriots for a Week 7 matchup.

The Tennessee Titans made a coaching change Monday afternoon when they fired Brian Callahan.

“After extended conversations with our owner and general manager, we met with Brian Callahan this morning to tell him we are making a change at head coach,” president of football operations Chad Brinker said in a statement released by the team. “These decisions are never easy, and they become more difficult when they involve people of great character. We are grateful for Brian’s investment in the Titans and Tennessee community during his tenure as head coach. We thank him and his family for being exemplary ambassadors of the Tennessee Titans.”

The move comes days before former Titans coach Mike Vrabel returns to Tennessee with the New England Patriots for a Week 7 matchup. Vrabel was the Titans coach for six seasons and made three playoff appearances. He also helped lead them to division titles in 2020 and 2021.

Callahan went 4-19 in his tenure with Tennessee. He was hired in January 2024 to replace Vrabel.

The Titans are 1-5 this season. Their latest loss came in Week 6 by way of a 20-10 defeat to the Las Vegas Raiders.
