Landry Brede knew it was time to be a Buckeye.

The Mentor (Ohio) High three-star offensive lineman had been committed to NC State since June after his official visit to Raleigh. Brede wanted to take his time to make the best decision for himself and that led him to being a Buckeye.

Ohio State was planning to re-evaluate everyone, according to statements made recently by General Manager Mark Pantoni.

“We’re still going to re-evaluate probably 300 players,” Pantoni said in the first week of training camp. “We always want to try to uncover a couple guys. But the volume of guys we watch is not going to change. I think we’re in a normal spot at the end of the summer … with 21 commits.

“It’s kind of where we want to be. To leave room for a few more spots for high school kids to finish out this class.”

When Brede first got the offer from Ohio State in early September he knew it’d be something he had to think about.

“It was a great feeling to finally get an offer from the school I have grown up watching,” Brede said. “I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to play for such an amazing program.”

From there Brede took an unofficial visit to Ohio State for the Sept. 13 night game with Ohio. The Ohio native made a strong connection with offensive line coach Tyler Bowen

“I’ve talked with him (Bowen) in person a couple times and even more through calls and FaceTime,” Brede said. “But I really like Coach Bowen. I think he’s very good at what he does and he’s a good person as well.”

Brede is commitment No. 21 for the Buckeyes in the 2026 recruiting class. The group is tracking be another elite one for coach Ryan Day sitting inside the top ten of the Rivals Recruiting Rankings
