It's time to vote for the Halifax Health Volusia-Flagler Boys Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 6-11.
Last week, Father Lopez golfer Turin Duber captured the honors, claiming 81% of the votes. The junior shot a 4-under-par 32, the best score in a match vs. Spruce Creek and a new Green Wave record.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal gathers nominees for upcoming polls from across the area via email at [email protected]. Please send a player's name, school and notable statistics for a given week. Submissions are due no later than 8 a.m. every Monday.
To round out the ballot, our staff also picks athletes from scores and stats posted online or submitted by local coaches. Athletes for all in-season sports, except football, are eligible. The News-Journal recognizes the local gridiron stars with our weekly game balls story.
Voting in the online poll below will close at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.
Cross country
Luke Carlson, Spruce Creek: The sophomore sped to 26th during the Division B race of the New World Fall Spectacular with a time of 17:06.
Landon Secomski, New Smyrna Beach: During the Division B race at the New World Fall Spectacular, the sophomore placed 96th out of nearly 400 competitors in 18:07.
Kai Shirley, Seabreeze: The senior finished 70th with a time of 17:45 during the Division B race of the New World Fall Spectacular.
Golf
Drew Curley, Flagler Palm Coast: The junior fired a 4-over-par 40 to tie for the lead in a match against Mainland.
Jack Rossheim, Father Lopez: The junior carded a 2-under-par 33, placing second individually as the Green Wave beat Seabreeze and Matanzas.
