Los Angeles Chargers fans will look back on the time when Mike McCoy was the team's head coach with plenty of negative thoughts. That's if they were fans of the team when it played in San Diego.

McCoy was the last coach of the San Diego Chargers before they moved to L.A. ahead of the 2017 season. After serving as a successful offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos, McCoy was hired ahead of the 2013 season. He was fired following the 2016 season.

On Tuesday, McCoy was named as the interim head coach of the Tennessee Titans, who fired Brian Callahan on Monday.

McCoy had a decent start to his coaching career with the Chargers, going 9-7 in his first two seasons. He took the team to the playoffs in 2013. But in his next two seasons, he went 9-23 and was given too much time in the minds of many Chargers fans.

The team then moved across the state and McCoey returned to Denver as its offensive coordinator, but he only last about half of that season before he was let go there as well.

McCoy will have his work cut out for him if he wants to be anything more than an interim head coach in Tennessee, but that will likely all come down to how No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward plays while he's there. Ward has struggled in his rookie season, but he may be able to turn things around.

McCoy is credited with creating an offense in which Tim Tebow found success in Denver. Later, in San Diego, Philip Rivers enjoyed some of his best seasons while McCoy was the head man.
