CARTHAGE, MO. — Mt. Vernon Volleyball has reached 20 wins with two regular-season games remaining, defeating Carthage in four sets (28-26, 17-25, 25-22, 25-12) on Monday.
The first set was a thriller as the Mountaineers held a 24-16 advantage before Carthage rattled off eight consecutive points to force a tie, though Mt. Vernon maintained its composure and came out with the result it needed.
From there, however, the momentum Carthage built towards the end of the first set poured over into set two as the Tigers rallied back from a 7-1 deficit at the start to take set two by an eight-point margin.
With things tied up at one set apiece, Mt. Vernon turned things up a notch and pulled away with a dominant showing in the fourth set to come away victorious.
Mt. Vernon will be back in action on Tuesday, October 14, at home against Seneca. Carthage, on the other hand, will look to bounce back on the road against Lebanon, with the game also slated for Tuesday, October 14.
