Flick considering starting 22-year-old talent against Girona despite injury concerns

According to an update shared by Mundo Deportivo, it has come to light that Hansi Flick is seriously considering starting Fermin Lopez in the upcoming La Liga clash against Girona, a move that could surprise many given the midfielder’s recent recovery from injury.

Normally, players returning from a muscular issue are gradually reintroduced to action, but this might not be the case with Fermin.

His recovery has gone better than expected, and with Dani Olmo ruled out for at least two to three weeks, Flick could decide to trust the youngster from the start.

It must be noted that Fermin suffered a muscular problem during the final moments of the match against Getafe on 21 September.

Initially, he was expected to be sidelined for three weeks, but the timing of the international break worked in his favour, giving him almost four full weeks to recover.

Now fully fit, the 22-year-old has been training normally with the squad since the start of this week.

Limited options for Flick

Flick’s potential decision to start Fermin is not without risk. However, it would also highlight the confidence the German coach has in the academy product, who has already shown flashes of brilliance since breaking into the first team.

The manager sees him as a player capable of bringing energy, pressing intensity, and a direct attacking threat, qualities that will be vital against a Girona side known for their organised defensive structure and quick transitions.

The manager does have other options to explore, but Fermin’s energy and his familiarity with the position make him the safest bet for this clash.

With Olmo’s injury disrupting Barcelona’s midfield balance, Fermin could be the key to maintaining attacking rhythm and creativity.
