Week 9 of the high school football season is in the books, and there were some memorable games and stellar performances by individual players.
Beach junior Jordan Newton ran for a career-high 305 yards and five touchdowns as the Bulldogs rolled to a win over Johnson.
There were also some big-time efforts in other sports, as several area volleyball teams won region titles as they head into the state playoffs on a strong note.

Jordan Newton, Beach
The junior rushed for 306 yards and five touchdowns in a win over Johnson.
Ryan Scott, Jenkins
The senior rushed for 163 yards on 22 carries and scored on a 43-yard touchdown run in a win over SE Bulloch.
Carinne Cason, Savannah Christian volleyball
The sophomore had 37 assists, 10 aces and 18 digs to help lead the Raiders to a win over St. Vincent's in the Area 3A championship match.
Eli Frieson, Savannah High
The senior rushed for a pair of touchdowns as Savannah High ended a 40-game losing streak with a win over Claxton.
JR McKenzie, Effingham County
The senior rushed for a career-high 167 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries in a win over Evans.
Talia Johnson, Richmond Hill volleyball
The senior ha 12 kills, eight digs and four aces in a win over Glynn Academy for the Wildcats, who enter the playoffs with a 38-2 record.
Kenneth Baker, Calvary Day
The junior led Calvary Day with 10 tackles and caught a touchdown pass in a win over Islands.
Ellie Ayala, Savannah Arts volleyball
The sophomore played a pivotal role as the Panthers came back from a two-set deficit to beat Peirce County in five sets to win the Region 2-3A championship. Ayala was named the region MVP.
Weston Hughes, Savannah Christian
The senior had three catches for 71 yards and a pair of touchdowns and added seven tackles and a pass defended in a win at Vidalia.
Elijah Brown, Liberty County
The senior ran for a pair of scores and caught a touchdown pass in a win over Groves.
Jordan Cheever, Bethesda
The senior rushed for 165 yards and four touchdowns in a win at Dillon Christian.
Chloe Adkins, Effingham County cross country
The junior won the 7th Mile Farm Invitational with a 5K time of 20:14.00.
Harry Cleland, Habersham School cross country
The senior helped lead the Patriots to the team title by winning the individual race at the Hornet Invitational as he covered the 5K course in 16:49.00.
Brandon Brown, Jenkins
The junior led the Warriors with nine tackles and had a fumble recovery in the win over SE Bulloch.
John Gross, Savannah Christian
The senior had 14 tackles and a tackle for a loss in the win at Vidalia.
Ben Fluegel, South Effingham cross country
The senior won the boys race at the 7th Mile Farm Invitational with a 5K time of 17:13.20.
Francie Tedder, Savannah Arts cross country
The junior helped lead the Panthers to a second-place team finish at the 7th Mile Farm Invitational by finishing second with a time of 20:31.
Gaby Kenard, Habersham School
The sophomore won the title at the Hornet Invitational with time of 20:23.97 as the Patriots won the team title.
