Former Formula One driver Mick Schumacher can see himself in the American IndyCar series in the future, after a first test drive on Monday.

"Everything is open for 2026. I have several options. IndyCar is one of them," he said. "I can't say how big my chances are to drive here. I need to process my impressions and see what I really want."

Schumacher drove a car of the Rahal Letterman Lanigan team on the famous Indianapolis Speedway and got a good impression after setting an early fast time.

"It was good to get to know the car and the team. I am very happy to be here," he said. "It won't take long until I make my decision."

Schumacher, the son of record F1 champion Michael Schumacher, drove in F1 in 2021 and 2022 for the American Haas team. He was not retained and has since not found a new team.

He is these days racing for Alpine in the Endurance World Championship sports car series but would like a return to single seater racing which F1 and IndyCar offer.

"I'm drawn to single-seaters. I just love seeing my wheels. My father always said: 'The Schumachers are faster when they can see their wheels,'" he said, referring the fact the sports car wheels are hidden away in cases.

Schumacher added he will decide on one series, also because he doesn't want to race in Europe and the US.

"When I decide in favour of something I would commit 100% to it," he said.
