FC Barcelona announced earlier today that veteran striker Robert Lewandowski has suffered a muscle tear in the femoral biceps of his left leg.

However, in the statement, the Blaugrana did not specify any recovery timeline for the 37-year-old centre-forward, who suffered the injury while in action for Poland during the ongoing international break.

Lewandowski to miss El Clasico

But, Mundo Deportivo has come forward with a possible timeline for Lewandowski’s absence and return, and it does not make for good reading for Barcelona.

As per the report, the veteran centre-forward will likely be sidelined for a period of 4-6 weeks following his hamstring injury.

It means that not only will Lewandowski miss the upcoming La Liga game against Girona and the subsequent UEFA Champions League clash against Olympiacos, but he is also ruled out of the first El Clasico of the season.

Barcelona play Real Madrid away at the Santiago Bernabeu on 26 October, and Lewandowski’s recovery timeline of 4-6 weeks means he will not be ready in time for the trip to the Spanish capital.

It now means that Barça will face their bitter rivals without Lewandowski, Joan Garcia, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Gavi, and Dani Olmo, all of whom are out injured.

Lewandowski returned to training on Tuesday at the Ciutat Esportiva, where he underwent medical tests after experiencing discomfort following Sunday’s match in Lithuania, a World Cup qualifier.

The Barça striker even scored in the 64th minute to make it 0-2 for his national team, and played the entire match, despite having felt some discomfort on the field.

Now, the veteran will be sidelined for at least a month, in a season during which he has already lost his starting spot to Ferran Torres.
