The New York Giants aren't going to be able to replace star wide receiver Malik Nabers, not by a long shot. He's the kind of talent you simply don't replace completely.
However, that shouldn't stop the Giants from adding more help for quarterback Jaxson Dart, whose development is paramount for the rest of the season but is dangerously close to being stunted thanks to a thin wide receivers room.
One player the Giants could target ahead of the Nov. 4 deadline is New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, who was named as someone New York should trade for by CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin.
Here's Benjamin's thoughts on the Saints-Giants trade prediction:
Shaheed is probably still underrated as a deep threat, averaging almost 16 yards per catch for his career. The problem is, he's due to hit free agency after the season, New Orleans is rebuilding, and Chris Olave is a higher priority for the Saints. That makes him ripe for a potential relocation. And why not New York, where the Giants suddenly have offensive juice thanks to the rugged youth of Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo? With Malik Nabers out due to injury, the wily Dart could really use a field-stretcher out wide. Shaheed is just that and could theoretically stick around, too.
The Saints are consistently being floated as a team that could be a seller at the deadline, and for good reason.
New Orleans is currently 1-5 and going nowhere this season and could use some assets to help rebuild a roster that is seriously lacking talent. Shaheed is a viable candidate to be traded, as he's in the final year of his contract.
Shaheed would give Dart a receiver who can take the top off the defense and, most importantly, an upgrade entirely over the lackluster weapons he's working with following Nabers' season-ending torn ACL.
Shaheed has tallied 316 yards and two scores through six games, which is made more impressive by the fact that he's a No. 2 receiver on a team that has Spencer Rattler as its quarterback.
Shaheed is young enough (27) that he could be a potential multi-year solution for the Giants if he builds chemistry with Dart, but New York can make that decision next offseason before he hits free agency.
It'll probably cost about a fifth-round pick to acquire the Saints wideout, and that's a price the Giants should pay to help put their young signal-caller in a better position to succeed.
