A new IWGP Women’s Champion was crowned at NJPW King of Pro-Wrestling.
The October 13 event kicked off with Sareee putting her IWGP Women’s Title on the line against Syuri. The challenger picked up the win with her Syu-Sekai finisher to become a two-time IWGP Women’s Champion.
The win marked Syuri’s second reign with the championship. She previously held the title for 55 days before dropping it to Sareee.
NJPW KOPW marked the first time the IWGP Women’s Title was defended at a New Japan show since Wrestle Kingdom 19, where Mayu Iwatani defended the belt against AZM.
In the KOPW main event, All Elite Wrestling’s Konosuke Takeshita defeated Zack Sabre Jr. to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. The Alpha earned his opportunity by winning the 2025 G1 Climax Tournament.
Takeshita will have a huge opportunity to become a double champion across two promotions at AEW WrestleDream this weekend. The Alpha will team up with Kazuchika Okada to challenge Brodido (Brody King and Bandido) for the AEW World Tag Team Championship on October 18. The pair earned their shot at the titles by defeating the champions in an eliminator match last week on Dynamite.
