Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Former United States Men's National Team and Atlanta United goalie Brad Guzan will retire from soccer after the 2025 MLS season, he announced Tuesday.
"I still remember the first time I stepped onto the field -- just a kid from Chicago who instantly knew this game was for me," Guzan wrote on Instagram. "From that moment on, I lived the dream every training session, every game and every single day.
"But today, as I prepare to hang up my gloves, put away the jersey and clean off my boots one final time, I know this journey was never just about me -- it's always been about the people who walked beside me."
Guzan, 41, made his senior career debut in 2004 for Chicago Fire Premier, a fourth-tier American club. He joined Chivas USA as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft. Guzan also played for Aston Villa in the Premier League and with EFL Championship clubs Hull City and Middlesbrough.
He joined Atlanta United in 2017 and helped the Five Stripes win the 2018 MLS Cup, in addition to US Open Cup and Campeones Cup crowns. Guzan totaled 89 clean sheets over 301 regular-season MLS appearances. He made 546 total professional appearances.

The Five Stripes (5-16-12) sit in 14th place in the Eastern Conference. They will host DC United in their season finale at 6 p.m. EDT Saturday in Atlanta, needing a draw or win to avoid finishing the year as the worst team in MLS.
