Massachusetts high school football season has reached the midway point of the season and has seen little change has occurred at the top of the state Top 25 rankings.

St. John’s Preparatory School continues as the state’s No. 1 tea,, with Catholic Memorial and Tabor Academy following in at the No. 2-3 spots, respectively. Which other teams, though, join the three aforementioned teams when it comes to the latest Massachusetts high school football Top 25 rankings?

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the latest Massachusetts high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Oct. 14.

1. St. John’s Preparatory School Eagles

The Eagles (5-0) are the reigning No. 1 team out of Massachusetts and there’s plenty to like about this team. St. John’s boasts having one of the best sophomore quarterbacks in the country in Christopher Vargas, who is coming off a solid freshman campaign. Vargas last season threw for 1,311 yards, 17 touchdowns and only three mere interceptions.

St. John’s Prep defeated Rhode Island’s previous No. 1 La Salle Academy in a 53-20 decision back on Sep. 27. The Eagles returned to play last week against Boston College High, coming away with a 35-0 win.

Massachusetts high school football’s top-ranked team takes the field Saturday against St John’s.

2. Catholic Memorial Knights

Catholic Memorial (4-0) are once again loaded with Power 4 talent, with a handful that’ll be making the short trip over to Boston College after their time with the Knights. Among the myriad of Boston College commitments are 2026 three-star linemen Marcelino AntunesMac Fitzgerald, 2027 safety Jackson Tucker and 2028 athlete Ramar Thomas.

The Knights are always in the mix when it comes to MIAA’s Division 2 classification and their most impressive victory of the season was a 56-32 romp over St. Francis (N.Y.) several weeks ago. The Knights defended home turf against Malden Catholic last week in a 47-14 victory.

Catholic Memorial has arguably its toughest game of the season so far when they take on No. 7 Xaverian Brothers.

3. Tabor Academy Seawolves

Coming in at the No. 3 spot is the Tabor Academy Seawolves (4-0), whom feature one of the state’s most talented rosters bar none. The Seawolves have a bevy of Division I talent, which includes players like junior quarterback Peter Bourque (Michigan commit), Amahn Williams (UCF commit) and a pair of UCLA defensive linemen commitments in Carter Gooden and Marcus Almada, respectively.

Tabor Academy was impressive in their regular season opener, a 37-6 rout of The Williston Northampton School, following it up with a dominating outing over The Governors Academy in a 46-6 rout and then taking care of business against Milton Academy in a 51-26 win. Last week, the Seawolves crushed the Trinity Pawling, 64-3.

The Seawolves are back in action this week against winless Belmont Hill School (0-4).

4. Springfield Central Golden Eagles

The Golden Eagles (4-1) have been an interesting team through the first four games of the season, as this group could easily be 4-0 after losing their opener by one point to St. John’s Preparatory School, 36-35.

Since then, Springfield Central has bounced back with four straight quality victories against Longmeadow, MansfieldWestfield and Xaverian Brothers, with the latter coming against a state championship winning team from a year ago.

Springfield Central will look to make it five consecutive wins when they hit the road over to East Longmeadow.

5. King Phillip Regional Warriors

King Philip Reg (5-0) have had themselves a couple of close calls in recent weeks when they just edged out Foxborough, 15-12, and then a 23-21 win over Natick.

The Warriors are coming off another strong season in the MIAA’s Division II classification, in which they went 12-1 and reached the state championship game, losing to Catholic Memorial. With an advantageous schedule that mimics last year’s, the road back to the title game looks clear once again for the Warriors.

King Phillip Regional returns from a bye week and is back in action against Taunton (3-1) on Friday night.
