The Miami Hurricanes are off their best season start since the 1989 season, when they won a National Championship under Dennis Erickson. They finished 11-1 that year. With a #2 ranking in the country, Miami finds themselves in an advantageous situation with no ranked opponents left on the schedule.

This week CBS Sports released its mid-season All American team. Four Miami Hurricanes headline that list, the most from any single program. Those Hurricanes included are QB Carson Beck who is also the current odds-on favorite to win the Heisman Trophy through the midway point. Offensive Tackle Francis Mauigoa and Center James Brockermeyer both made the mid-season roster. As well as CBS Sports early NFL mock draft consensus 2nd overall pick Defensive End Reuben Bain Jr.

Carson Beck is having a resurgence in 2025. When Beck transferred to Miami from Georgia, the prevailing question was which Beck is Miami getting? The good news for Miami is that Beck returned to his 2023 form. Returning to completion percentage in the mid 70s (73.4). The passing yards are down, but the Hurricanes are winning games.

Mauigoa and Brockermeyer anchor an offensive line that is a consensus top 10 unit. In the area of pass blocking, Miami is eighth in the nation and 11th in the nation for run blocking. Mauigoa and Brockermeyer headline a group of offensive linemen, most of which are expected to eventually play on Sundays.

Reuben Bain Jr is maybe the most intriguing player on the roster. At times, it seems there is not a blocker he can’t beat. He is big, strong, quick, patient and unrelenting. More so than most, he is a patient pass rusher. He knows the right time to counter blocks and knows when to use his athleticism vs his technique. Barring anything significantly unforeseen, Reuben Bain Jr could be one of the first non-quarterback names heard announced in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Miami’s schedule is backloaded with in-conference games. Which is the only reason they aren’t higher on the ACC standings. Unlike Georgia Tech, Virginia, Duke, and SMU ahead of them, Miami has only played one conference game thus far. Beating then 18th ranked Florida State 28-22. Of the teams remaining on the schedule, only SMU is in the top half of the ACC standings.

This week, Miami welcomes Louisville (currently 8th in the ACC) to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. That game will broadcast on ESPN at 7:00pm eastern.
