Spain continued their dominant run in World Cup qualifying with a 4-0 win over Bulgaria in Valladolid, marking their fourth win from four games. Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino starred again, netting twice to guide La Roja to another commanding victory.
The hosts controlled the match from the start, creating chance after chance through Álex Baena, Samu, and Mikel Oyarzabal, but it was Merino who finally broke the deadlock in the 35th minute with a sharp header from a deflection.
Early in the second half, Merino struck again, rising at the far post from a José Gayà cross to double Spain’s lead.
Bulgaria offered little threat, and the match was wrapped up with an own goal from Chernev before Oyarzabal converted a stoppage-time penalty.
With 15 goals scored and none conceded, Spain now edges closer to securing a World Cup spot, maintaining a perfect record under Luis de la Fuente.
