The Los Angeles Chargers had gone into a complete free fall.
Following a 3-0 start to the season, it seemed the sky was the limit. But after losses to the New York Giants and Washington Commanders, the team's injury report started to look like a massive issue and one the team may not recover from. Suddenly, a game in Miami against the Dolphins, which once seemed like a guaranteed win, was no easy task.
The Chargers were moments away from a third straight loss until this play happened. Justin Herbert shook off a sack attempt by Jaelen Phillips and found Ladd McConkey for a 43-yard gain to set up the game-winning field goal.

That play helped the Chargers' case in the weekly power rankings put together by Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News. The team moved up two spots to No. 11 on the week.
"The Chargers needed to rev up Justin Herbert to Ladd McConkey without key stars Omarion Hampton and Quentin Johnston in Miami and also found plenty of running game to avoid a tough upset and end a two-game skid. That was big for Jim Harbaugh to keep his team in control of the AFC West", wrote Iyer.
While it got the Chargers going back up in the power rankings, the completion from Herbert to McConkey was in many ways a season-saving play. Three losses in a row combined with all of the injuries this team is facing could have been difficult to battle back from.
Instead, the Chargers are 4-2 and currently in first place in the AFC West division. More than that, the team proved it can go on the road for an early kickoff and battle back from some serious adversity to get a win.
