AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF)- HBCU football returns to Augusta, as Fort Valley State takes on Savannah State in the Good Trouble Classic at Laney High School.
The two schools will meet at David Dupree Memorial Stadium, right in the heart of downtown Augusta. In just four days, the now empty stands will be packed with fans from around the CSRA.
It’s a full circle moment for Laney head coach Ronnie Baker, who last coached in the classic at Benedict College back in 2016. He details why it’s important for the CSRA football community to support HBCU college football at Laney, plus his current players will get the chance to watch from the sidelines.
“I think the tradition that we have down here at Laney High School, bringing the HBCU’s here is tremendous and the accolades that these HBCUS bring with them and the amount of student alumni that’s in the city that went to these great universities, it’s always good to come back home and have your team come back home,” said Laney head coach Ronnie Baker.
“It’s an opportunity for the kids who dream of playing on that level actually talk to them and see how it is to play on that level, the competition and size of those guys,” Baker said.
10 players from the CSRA will be represented between both teams. Kickoff set for 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
